Your notes are yours.
Last updated October 21, 2026
- ✦ No ads, no tracking for advertising, and we never sell your data.
- ✦ Your notes sync to Foliva’s server only so they appear on every device you sign in on.
- ✦ Delete your account and every note, photo and file with it, at once, from Settings.
- ✦ Sage only receives the text you select.
Your account
A Foliva account is an email address and a password. You can also give a name. Your password is never stored as written: we keep a salted, one-way hash of it. When you sign in, the device keeps a session token so you stay signed in; we store only a hash of that token, too.
What syncs, and why
So that the same notebook appears on your iPhone and on the web, Foliva’s server keeps a copy of what’s in your book:
- your notes: their text, drawings, sticky notes, travel cards, folders, and the page each one is on;
- the files you add to pages: photos, videos, stickers, PDFs and your cover photo;
- your book’s settings and cover design (paper, ink, fonts, title, the name on the cover);
- a place for a note, if you chose to keep one with it (used for the “nearest note” option).
This copy is used only to sync your book between your devices and to show it to you. We don’t read your notes, analyse them, or use them to train anything.
When you delete a note, your other devices need to learn it’s gone. The server keeps a small marker of the deletion for up to 90 days, then removes it.
Deleting everything
In the app’s Settings (on iPhone or the web) choose to delete your account and confirm with your password. Your account, every note, every file and every setting are deleted from the server at once. This can’t be undone.
One thing stays, with nothing personal in it: for each Marketplace purchase, the store’s transaction number, which product it was and whether it was refunded, no longer linked to you. That stops the same purchase being claimed twice; it has no name, email or notes attached.
Sage AI (Foliva Premium)
When you select text and ask Sage, only that text, and the question you type if you ask one, is sent through Foliva’s server to the AI model that writes Sage’s answers, and is used to answer that request. The rest of your notebook is not sent. When you ask Sage for a travel guide, only the name of the place is sent. Sage’s answers appear on screen; they go into a note only if you tap Add to Page.
What stays on your device
- Reading scans, receipts and invoices happens on your iPhone.
- Speaking a note is turned into words on your iPhone.
- Photos: Foliva sees only the photos you pick, not your library.
Other services
- Stripe handles card payments on the web. Your card details go straight to Stripe; Foliva never sees or stores your card number. We keep your Stripe customer reference, your plan and its renewal date, and what you bought in the Marketplace, so your plan and purchases work on the web and on iPhone.
- Apple handles purchases in the iPhone app. Foliva receives Apple’s signed record of a Marketplace purchase (product, transaction number, date) to unlock it on the web too; Apple never shares your payment details with us.
- Apple handles subscriptions bought in the iPhone app, through the App Store. We never see your card. That plan is read from the App Store on your iPhone.
- Weather. The weather widget and travel cards ask Open-Meteo, a free weather service, for the weather at a place. Only the place’s coordinates are sent; no account, no identifier.
- Maps. Searching for a place on a travel card uses Apple’s map search.
- Cloudflare carries the connection to Foliva’s website and server, which protects it from attacks.
The website doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies. The web app sets one cookie to keep you signed in.
Children
Foliva isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly create accounts for them.
